Montgomery County Community College—Sports Logo Update

Updated Mustang Logo. Click to view larger

Everyone here at SP+O was excited to have the opportunity to rework Montgomery County Community College's Athletics Logo. MCCC required an athletic, dynamic Mustang, and were concerned that their current mascot looked too angry. As you can see from their original logo, the horse looks pretty unhappy, and there is a lot of clutter that takes away from the clarity of the mark.

We made sure the new mark was exciting, aggressive, and youthful, without making it appear angry. Dynamic angles and defined musculature give this mustang an athletic look. His stance is strong, yet nimble, representing the ideal physique for all of Montgomery County Community College's sports.

This logo update required the creation of "peelable logos" which essentially allow you to "peel off" different elements of the logo. This allows for greater usability across a variety of platforms. It also creates a greater merchandising opportunities, with different versions of the logo applied to hats, banners, and even the basketball court.

Examples of the peelable variations.

In the end, Montgomery County Community College was happy with their new mascot. A happy client makes a happy design studio, and all of us at SP+O are proud of the outcome.
